Allow me to re-introduce myself. My name is Kevin Vinod Pranjivan, BComm, and rookie of the “Real Life”. Just like any sports league, no matter how much you prepare or succeeded in all levels prior, rookies still have to find their place within, make the transition (whether be it of location or of team role’s) and lastly they must adjust to their new surroundings. This analogy can also apply to where I currently stand, which is one step into the “Real Life".
My Place (Condo Warming)
As of August 22nd 2010, I have been living in my new condo. Moving was way more then I expected it to be, but this is where hopefully I can earn some sponsorship money. The Toyota Matrix has more space than the iPhone 4. To be exact the little hatch back as the capability to fit 24 Jordan boxes (trust me size 13 boxes are quite big). It was quite the sight to see the car full of Jordan’s, and I am not going to lie, it felt nice. Anyways to remain on topic, the condo lifestyle is great. I am still settling in as there are some outstanding items that still need to be addressed, but the condo is 90% furnished now and it is looking real live! However the condo will not be looking nearly as live as it does today with out the help of my parents. My mom was a huge hand in helping me settle in and the handy skills of my dad were a huge help inassembling, moving etc… *Also to get him on the GARRRRRRLICCC movement is biggggg!*
Once it is completely furnished and the dust has settled, I will defiantly have a condo warming. Most likely will be a cookies and milk or a wine and cheese. Maybe even some sorrel up in there too….
The Transition
The transition from the prologue to the “Real Life” has been one that I was well prepared for. For those who don’t know, I was offered a permanent position with my current employer, which was effective on August 23rd. In other words, I am working full time hours. The transition into this position and the hours has been very smooth for two reasons. The first reason is that my colleagues and coworkers that I have been working with remain the same. I am already part of the work culture within the team, thus I do not have that “new guy” feeling, like you would when you switch schools. The second reason is mainly due to the co-op experience I gained through my bachelor of commerce. This experience has made the increase to full time hours very easy as I have done it before. The transition into the work component of the “Real Life” has been great.
The transition that I knew was going to be difficult is the change of scenery. Not geographically but socially as the personnel around me is going through changes ala Eminem. Before explaining why this social transition isn’t as easy, you must understand transition, the word. You don’t know the word? Transition – A modulation, especially a brief one (when used in music contexts). Now you know the word, and this is exactly what my transition reflects because it is a brief modulation.
As mentioned previously in the Prologue I gave a shout out to the Wolfpak/Cut Bartles and The Tripod. Bartle D from the Wolfpak/Cut Bartles is currently modulating back in the dub! This modulation will be brief because I know he is already begun the process of varying his pitch, increasing his intensity and tone and is ready to unleash it (ouch). Wolfpak/Cut Bartles are always together no matter what, connected via the trans-bartle highway. The Tripod is reflective of a triangle, which is the strongest shape you can find. Although two of the vertices may be back in the T.Dot (doing big things) we all know the segments are always going to be connected. The Wolfpak/Cut Bartles and the Tripod are “impetuous, their defence is impregnable, they are just ferocious” (credit to iron Mike Tyson) know matter where the members reside. This transition as I said is brief and although the same personnel may not be around me physically, we always going to be there for each other! RESPECT!
Adjustments
The major adjustment that has yet to kick in is to realize that I am done my undergraduate degree. I think it will kick in then the celebration occurs on November 13th! All the family (A and B) I mentioned in the prologue, please try to make it! It will make the adjustment that much easier and the party 10x better! Another adjustment that I am trying to get a grasp on is this phenomenon known as free time. I haven’t had free time to this extent in a long time, and while many of you may be thinking the grass is greener on the other side (in the context of free time), you’re not thinking what I’m thinking…. Aim for the bushes? Exactly. The lesson that it is key to use your free time wisely which is why I have decided to pursue my Certified General Accountant (CGA) designation as soon as possible rather then take a break.(Most likely will start in Winter 2011).
Now when I started this chapter, I was standing one step into the “Real Life”. I am still in the same spot, however how far I walk, how long I jog, and how fast I run from my standing point is solely dependent on my ability to find my place, make the transition and adjust to my new surroundings. EDIT* I WILL WALK FAR, JOG LONG, AND RUN FAST FROM MY STANDING POINT AS I WILL FIND MY PLACE, MAKE THE TRANSITION AND ADJUST* ----> AKA I WONT SETTLE!
Stay tuned for “Real Life” – Chapter 2: Ridin' on 22’s
